CURRICULUM DESCRIPTIONS

NEW keepin' it REAL D.A.R.E. MIDDLE SCHOOL TRAINING

The D.A.R.E. Middle School Curriculum is taught at the 7th or 8th grade level during an instructional block of 10 consecutive days. To be eligible, an Officer must be a certified DARE Instructor having already received the revised Elementary Curriculum. ADDITIONAL TRAINING IS AVAILABLE AT THE 2010 INTERNATIONAL TRAINING CONFERENCE IN CINCINNATI JULY 20-22, 2010 www.dare.org


“DARE High School Training”

The DARE High School Curriculum is currently under analysis and will need to be tweaked and revised accordingly. The High School Program "Take Charge of Your Life" has seven lessons with an option "Project" at the end to be done in conjunction with the student's own High School. The curriculum contains several "trigger" video's that promote open discussion with the students. These discussions result in decision making and possible alternatives.

 

“DARE Officer Training”

The DOT format will include training in the: DARE K-4 Program, Elementary Core Program (9 weeks), keepin’ it REAL Middle School Program (10 weeks) and D.A.R.E. SRO certification. To be eligible, a police officer must be a sworn full-time officer with two years uniformed street experience in their current department OR a sworn full-time officer with a total of two years uniformed street experience, who has successfully completed the current departments imposed probationary period. Also, the Officer must have no sustained disciplinary actions within the past three years or be involved in a current departmental investigation. A Statement of Commitment must be completed by both the Police Department and School Superintendent. The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and the Law Enforcement Foundation, Inc., along with other sponsors, will cover all training costs and materials for Ohio DARE Officers (which is held at OPOTA-London). Room Accommodations (Double Occupancy) and Meals are provided for the duration of the 80-hour training. Transportation costs to and from the Academy are not included. Other application requirements apply. The application and all paperwork/information must be received BEFORE an Officer will be scheduled for the Interview.
